What happened to Thanksgiving?
by: Kendall Grider

It’s that time of year again! The days are shorter and the weather is cooler. Halloween is now over, and let’s get ready for the next holiday in the three-month span of holidays. After Halloween is Christmas. You heard me right! Where’d Thanksgiving go?

How on earth can we forget Thanksgiving? Well, many of us decide to go shopping a few months ahead of time. Sure, it’s a lot better thatway, but many of us get caught up on it and we forget everything else. Well, just hope your mom dosen’t forget the turkey!

Along with the turkey comes the deocrations. Come on! Nobody ever decorates for Thanksgiving or fall anymore. It’s all about decorating for Halloween and turning around to decorate for Christmas. What’s up with that? We may never figure that one out. But shopping may have a big thing to do with it.

By working in the mall, I’ve realized that it doesn’t take long after Halloween to break out the Christmas decor. By November 14th or 15th Santa should be in the middle of the mall taking Christmas orders and making pictures. Okay, maybe I’m being a little too harsh, but the truth hurts. Why don’t they set up a turkey in the middle to take pictures with? I’d like a picture!

With all these things going on, what about the Christmas parade? It happens before Thanksgiving is even celebrated. Yes, I know we have it in November because December is too cold. But, why not that Saturday after Thanksgiving?

It will just never really make sense why Thanksgiving is forgotten. Maybe because for Christmas there’s presents, and for Halloween there’s candy. But maybe some day we will all realize what really happened to Thanksgiving!
