Apple festival 2004: makes a cold chill for a great meal
by: Kendall Grider
Entertainment Editor

There are so many things at the annual Apple Festival for everybody. There’s a corn maze, many craft booths, rides, games, and of course all of the food.

The food offered there is incredible. So many things for just one person to eat. Or if you just want the usual burger, hot dogs or fries, you can get those. If you want pizza, you can get that too. You could also help out the Apollo FFA by buying bean soup and or coffee. But for more other unique items, you could get some frozen chocolate bananas on a stick, or deep fried candy bars, or german roasted nuts. There are also people who stand in line for the famous kettle corn. There are people who come all the way from Mt. Vernon, Missouri to let us feast on their tasty corn. But, what surpasses them all are of course, the apples.

Apple cider, slushies, caramel apples, and apple turnovers are one of the reasons for the Apple Festival. Reid’s Orchard’s apples are used for the occasion.

Not only is there food, but there is also games and rides as well. Casey’s rides comes and set up all kinds of rides and games for this occasion. The rides consist of a mini ferris wheel, a gravitron, and many more. The games consist of popping balloons, and a duck pond, plus many more with lots of prizes.

Along with the games and food, there are also the booths. Many booths are set up with many unique things. Crafts are a major attraction. There are wooden items, as well as painted items. Also, there are purses, blankets, pillows and clothes. Many people love the unique jewelry and hand-crafted items. These craft booths are a major favorite for peoplefrom all over. Many people from Indiana, Missouri, Maryland, Ohio, and Tennesse travel to get the taste of Owensboro’s unique Apple festival.

With all the excitement, you could take out your anger by hitting a car. Sound like fun? Many people also come to enjoy smashing the infamous car every year at the festival. Courtesy of Grider’s Auto Salvage, a car is donated to be beat up and banged on for local charities. Seeing the distraught car makes it look as if someone was in an accident of some sort. Many people often wonder how angry some people might have been after it is all done with. This is one of the many enjoyments of the festival.

So if you want to just lay back and relax from walking, you could sit around and watch some jousting or some great acting. Every year, there are people that set up an area to act all day as Medieval knights and ladies to fight and put on a play. If you enjoy all of those kinds of things, this is a neat way to see a great performance for only $2.00 (Parking is only $2.00 and you’re in.).

With the many attractions at the annual Apple festival, there are many things to choose from. So come on out next year and enjoy these festivities.
