Caroline Buchanan named Apollo’s own National Merit recipient
by: Cesley Hamilton

The Apollo High School Challenger staff is proud to announce that senior Caroline Buchanan has been announced as Apollo’s only National Merit recipient.

Caroline Ann Buchanan is seventeen years old. She was born on January 16, 1987. She is a member of the Band, she is on the Academic team, she is in Beta Club, a member of National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is also a member of the Pro-life Club.

Her accomplishments include All- District band for the past three years, distinguished solos and duets at Solo and Ensemble Festivle for Band, and piano festival awards. She is also the Band president.

When asked how she feels about this award, Caroline replied, “Recieving this scholarship would assist my college tuition a great deal, so being considered for it is very exciting. I hope it makes colleges take a more serious look at me when considering my acceptance, too.”

Caroline’s hobbies include playing the piano, writing, being with her friends, church activities, and playing the flute.

When asked what her goals are in life, Caroline replied, “I hope to travel during my college career, and eventually pursue a Ph. D. in psychology.”

According to Caroline, she’s unsure of her work ethic, saying, “I’m not sure how I prepared for the PSAT, as my work ethic is not outstanding and many people work harder than I do. Maybe my ability to work hard and devote time to what I like had something to do with it. I contribute this award in part to luck and proficient standardized test- taking skills.”

She is unsure of where she will be attending college, but she is sure that she wants to major in Psychology. She is unsure of her minor.
When asked her advice for future students, she replied, “If I had to give advice to someone seeking high school success, I would say, don’t be afraid to devote yourself to something you really love. If you’re looking to be a National Merit recipient, I honestly can give you little to no help at all.”

Caroline hopes to travel to many foreign countries and hopefully to live in a big city.
The Challenger staff of Apollo would like to congratulate Caroline on her wonderful accomplishment. Congratulations Caroline Buchanan, great job.
