Mr. Edmonson: More than a teacher

Mr. Edmonson has been teaching for thirteen years. He has taught five of them at Apollo High School. He teaches World Civilization, U.S. Government, IB European History, andU.S. Government/ Special Topics AP.

Mr. Edmonson went into the army right after high school. He says, “It was something that I had always wanted to do.” While in the Army, he was in the Field Artillery and served at Fort Cambell, Fort Knox and was with the Kentucky National Guard all the way through college. Mr. Edmonson says, “ The experience was great. I loved dealing with people from across the country and it was an outstanding experience.

Mr. Edmonson almost went to Operation Desert Storm. He got his orders to go to Iraq on the day the war ended.

After he got out of the Army, he went to Eastern Kentucky University and got his Bachelors degree. He went to Western Kentucky University for his Masters egree and his Rank I.
Mr. Edmonson says, “It was always a goal of mine to become a history teacher after I got out of the Army.”

Mr. Edmonson is married and has two kids. He has a daughter, Brittany, who is seven and a son, Ryan, who is two.

One of his favorite memories is going to the State Championship game. Another favorite memory is during his first year at Apollo when Christine Coy and Polly Carden “stole” Tin Man, his plastic knight. Stealing Tin Man has now become a tradition with his students. Last year, Tin Man was stolen too many times to count.

Mr. Edmonson was a football coach for fourteen years and even coached in a State Championship game. He still runs the 25 second clock at Apollo.

Michelle Harris, a senior, says “Even though he does not give any extra credit, he motivates you to do as well as you can do in class. He emphasizes that the grade that you get is the grade that you earned. ”
