Why can’t people park?
By: Rachel DeWeese
Associate Entertainment Editor

It always happens when I’m running late. I enter the school parking lot looking for a spot, when I almost have a heart attack and have to slam on my breaks, only seconds away from hitting the back end of some car, or truck (or SUV for the sake of including all types of vehicles). I find this so annoying, that I usually have to hold myself back from backing up, and then stepping on the gas to ram my car into the obtrusive vehicle. Sometimes I even fall into a catatonic state and daydream that I am ten feet tall and have the strength to lift a car. And then, I throw the obtrusive vehicle to the south side of Texas.

For those of you who do not drive yet, this still applies to you. Your time will come. For those of you that do, listen up! It is my objective in this article to start a revolution. We could make our parking lot into a small piece of heaven where people are courteous and kind. We need to start parking our cars right. If you just can’t park well, it’s

understandable. Parking takes practice. But then again, if you have your lisence, you should know how to park. After all, driving is not a right, it’s a privilege, and we should treat it that way.

So my fellow students, next time you park your vehicle please follow these three tips.
1. Please only take one parking space. If you have a big truck, it is no excuse to take up more than one parking spot. Just because you don’t pay for a parking spot doesn’t mean you can take up as many as your little heart desires.

2. Make sure you are parked inside the lines.

3. Make sure you have pulled up, or backed up far enough so that your vehicle is not sticking out like a target for other drivers to hit.

It doesn’t take a lot of effort or time, and it doesn’t even require the use of your brain. If we could just do these things, our parking lot could be such a better place.
One more thing about the parking lot. Accidents happen. So if you do so happen to hit a protruding vehicle, make sure to leave a note. It’s the right thing to do. No one wants to walk out to their car and find that it has taken a hit in the rear. In closing, next time you park your car, be nice, and do it right. Don’t just think about yourself, think about the other drivers that use the parking lot too.
