Cheerleaders bring spirit back
by:Amanda Walters
The Apollo Cheerleaders are at it again. But this year is alittle different than years in the past. Both squads together consist of thirty girls. There are five seniors, three sophomores, eight juniors, and FOURTEEN freshman. Even though this squad is very young they have alot of experience under their belts.
During the summer the girls attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville Tennessee. During the four days the girls worked hard and grew closer as a group and werent so seperated.
The whole squad got nominated to try out for the All - American team, but only 10 young ladies got accepted to be a memeber of thesquad. Those ladies were Andrea Roberson, Kelsey Stewart, Susan Kuegel,Keyocko McHenry, Whitney Frey, Chelsea Boiling, Latanya Carter, Courtney Fogle, Jacey Stanley, and Rachel McDivitt. Jacey Stanley got awarded Top All American over the whole camp. The NCA staff selected threeseniors to try out for the NCA staff this coming up summer.
The lucky girls were Kelsey Stewart, Andrea Roberson, and Amanda Walters. The girls are supposed to make a tape and send it in. So wish those seniros good luck.
The squad got a bid to nationals in Dallas Texas. This was received for the cheer they had done on the last day of camp. Squads competed on the last day of camp by doing techniques they had learned throughout the week. the girls recieved top team finalist, earned a spirit stick, and got an excellence award for stunts and jumps.
All in all this year promises to be an awesome year. They will be competing at KAPOS regionals sometime in Februaryand they will be going to other compitions this year. These young ladies have an outstanding talent and sure do know how to show it off. Good luck this year girls and ROCK ON!!
