It could happen to you
by: Kendall Grider

It creeps up on you, like a quick monster out to get you. The monster soon attacks you, like a flashing blur of light. You never think that it could happen, especially to you. According to parents and teachers, it could happen to anyone unprepared for this monster.
Like an inevitable push, this monster will eat your future. After that there's nothing left, leaving you to believe you're stuck. You could've avoided this! This causes you to become very clueless and causes failure. This could have been avoided if you would have noticed it in the beginning.
All this talk about a monster would probably creep you out, but it is not creepy at all. When talking about their futures, most freshmen think that they have all the time to prepare. In all reality, it would actually help you in the long run to look into colleges you are interested in while still a freshman. You will probably change what you want to do, but it's good to keep your options open.
Your senior year hits you hard because before you know it, it's May. Graduation is here before you can say "I'm an upcoming senior!". Being prepared is the key defense against this monster. Sometimes seniors don't realize the phrase "Time flies when you're having fun!".
If you realize first off that most college application deadlines are before Christmas break, you are on the right track. Then take those extra steps towards visiting campuses and talking with those college representatives.
Sounds pretty silly doesn't it? But if you fast-forward about 5 years, you'd see how this monster could eat your very future. Can you say "Do you want fries with that?"? No college degrees, no post-high school education, and no experience. I'd say your future is pretty much decided: a few part-time odd-ended jobs.
See how life's like with the monster? It's crazy how one decision can affect your whole life. Well, maybe not your whole life. It doesn't decide on where you live or anything. How much money you have would decide where you live. (Of course, unless you still live with your mom.) Life without the monster, well, you could end up with thousands of dollars and a home in the Caribbean-all because you went to college.
I'm not saying you can't have fun your senior year, though. Senior year is all about being the oldest, and being a graduate. Have fun! You've just about made it of high school! Just don't party too hard, you need to pass your senior year! I'm ready to graduate! But, I'm also ready for what I'm doing for my future. So, get out of my way! I have 8 months left to graduate!
