Multicultural Fest. in Owensboro

For six years now the First Presbyterian Church has hosted Owensboro’s Multicultural Festival to celebrate diversity and unity in the community. Thousands came on Saturday the 21st to enjoy free booths, shows, and the foods from around the world.
Starting at 11 in the morning and ending at 6 in the evening, the festival lasted long enough for many to come when it was convenient for themselves and for their families. The food courts opened early, offering Chinese, Italian, African-American, Filipino, and American dishes.
Families could participate in face paintings, tour an actual Native American teepee, win door prizes, and much more. Some booths even had clothing, toys, and crafts available for purchase. People could partake in the scavenger hunt, which they were to collect items from different booths. For example: A Japanese name, a peace sign from the Daviess County Public Library’s booth, Chinese fortune cookies, and an Irish shamrock. You could have also taken time out to answer a multiple choice Multicultural Quiz whose answers could be found by traveling from booth to booth.
If that wasn’t enough, there was always one form of entertainment going on. Whether it was on one of the stages, a sock puppet show, Native America dances, or a performance of Celtic music, there was always something delightful and entertaining going on. Owensboro High School even did the skit "Soot Face." Soot Face is a Native American rendition of the classic Cinderella.
An interesting booth for all ages was the genealogy booth. Here, one could trace their family trees and gather information about one's coat of arms, history, and much more.
The Multicultural Festival has always been successful, but this year's was a major hit. With over thirty boots, entertainent, food, and door prizes, those who worked the festival hope for succsess next year.
