Napoleon Dynamite makes Big Boom-New Exorcist Fails to Detonate
by: Rachel DeWeese

For a long while now, there has been no scary movies out in theaters, that is movies that are supposed to be scary and actually are scary. After seeing Exorcist: The Beginning, I was scared to drive home by myself. In fact, before leaving the theater, I checked the backseat and trunk of my car, just incase there were any demons hiding back there.
Exorcist: The Beginning is a prequel to the original Exorcist. It goes back in time and shows Father Merrin's experience in Africa, who is the older priest in the original Exorcist. His character, I must admit, is completely unoriginal.
He's an ex-priest turned archaeologist, and is asked to help uncover a Christian Church that was buried in Africa. Father Merrin must go inside the church by himself. While in the church he sees some very disturbing images like upside down crosses, and other things to prove that evil has been working there.
The movie is very scary, but it's a bit over the top and the plot isn't that great. It's as if the makers threw in everything they could possibly think of just to make the movie better and scarier than the original (which is impossible). The original Exorcist is a classic, so of course the New Exorcist is not better, but it's not a bad movie.
On a much better note, Napoleon Dynamite proved to be a much better experience. I absolutely did not want to go see this movie. When it first came out I was glad that it wasn't on at our theaters. Of coarse it ended up coming here, and the first weekend it played I was forced to go see it.
Not only did it just look stupid, but it's also PG which means annoying Middle School kids would most likely be in there. Despite all this, I found myself sitting down in the theater waiting to see Napoleon Dynamite. I went in gloomy, but came out with one of the greatest feelings a movie has ever given me.
Napoleon Dynamite is a movie that every high school student can relate to. Napoleon must not only fight battles with the opposite sex and go through popularity struggles, but he also must deal with problems at home with crazy relatives.
This movie has one of the funniest characters that has been created recently. He is basically the biggest nerd imaginable. From the beginning Napoleon just seems doomed, but the great thing about this movie is that it shows life is full of happy endings, no matter how hopeless things may seem. Napoleon Dynamite was just great. It's funny, yet there is a great lesson to be learned. And remember, it's always good to save your tots for last period.
