Apollo welcomes new comers

The foreign exchange program offers students the opportunity to meet new people and explore diverse cultures.AHS was fortunate enough to have three students participate this year. Sonja Kelbel is a junior from Germany. David Delgado is Ecuadorian and from Thailand is Tanya Rotanacheruongo; both are seniors.
David, a native of Zemora, a small town South of Ecuador, has enjoyed himself in the States thus far.
“There are many things that I like in this country. I miss my family and friends. I have three brothers and one sister."
Delgado also noticed the contrast of our country and culture as opposed to his own. "Many things are different such as the lifestyle of the western people, the way they think, and the way they act."
David also had this to say concerning education in his county.
"In the majority of schools we have to have uniforms which I don't like and the majority of teachers are very strict. There are normally seven classes in one day, so classes are not very long. The teachers here are funny and make the classes informal."
Sonya Kelbel, who's residency is Munich, Germany, is like David, a little home sick.
"I miss my boyfriend, family, and my friends."
She keeps in touch with her loved ones through e-mail.The large number of students that attend Apollo is a change for Kelbel.
"We have no big schools or stores in my town but Munich is a party scene. I do like America, I think it is cool!"
Tanya, who is Thai, has visited the States before and is still fascinated by certain novelties here in the U.S.
"It is very hot in Thailand. There are no ice rinks there and I like them but I don't like winter here. It is hard being away from home but I communicate with my mom, dad, and brother through MSN."
The Eagle Family as well as the Challenger staff welcome these new students to our school and country.
