Welcome to Eagle Family E-learning Night
My name is Laura Conkright, your child's Geometry teacher, and I am your hostess
for this evening's program.
It is hard to believe we have only had the laptops for 5 months.it seems like
a lot longer! I know for myself, I have become quite attached to using whenever
and wherever. I am sure you have noticed the same with your child..are they
ever without it? And are they sleeping with it?? And I am sure there have been
times when you have wanted to hide it to get them to do ..
Academically, the computers have been used a variety of ways. And as teachers,
we see that increasing as we receive more training. To give you an idea,
English:

In class writing and journaling

Online grammar practice

Reading stories/articles online

Using excel charts to organize information into study sheets
-
Guided exploration of websites
-
Ethical and plagiarism issues in research
Math
Figure this math challenges with real/world application problems

Web lessons on tan grams, symmetry, in which one student remarked that
they were able to view many more pictures than what I could ever draw (and
better)
-
Interactive lessons on the computer in which they clicked on objects to
rotate or move, made a kaleidoscope, measured angles.

Completed chapter standardized tests and sent the results to me.

I had a problem on a test about a very large Ferris wheel
and the angle degree between each car. Someone asked if this was a real.we looked it up on the internet.it
was made for a world's fair in 1892.found pictures.it had 36 cars and
was 250 feet in diameter.
Career Options
And our reason for being here tonight..your child selected a topic in Geometry
to explore. A movie was produced using a program on the laptops called windows
movie maker. Three judges scored the projects independently and scores were
averaged. The projects were scored as to: demonstration of notable insight/understanding
of topic, relativeness to real-world, the video-shots in focus, audio-sound
clear, proof of organization, and references were given. Not that much different
that we might have been assigned..but the way it which it was presented is!
