JR GUIDANCE NEWS : 8/17/05

I'm hearing good news about the Class of 2007. There's a lot of class schedule satisfaction "going on"! Keep on keeping on with your credits toward graduation, career exploration, and working reasonable hours during your junior year! All of these are important in what you want to do after you graduate.."be here B4 you know it". I will be giving you junior letters through your English classes this year. Please read them. They will contain information useful to you this school year and will also be available on the web at www.ahs.dcps.org clicking on Guidance at the top of the page.

Newsworthy items:

  • JR Parent meeting is Tuesday, 9/13 at 6:30 p.m . I hope you are encouraging your parent(s) to attend. It will have a lot of good information for them/you.
  • PSAT will be given at AHS on Tuesday, 10/12/5 during fall break. It's important for your parent(s) to know this & decide if you are going to take it. Cost is $12 & you must register in the guidance office between 9/7-9/28/05. Oct. 12 is the only time it will be given in the DCPS. The PSAT score decides the National Merit Scholarship Corp. selection process (senior year). This is not an expensive pre-college entrance test compared to the ACT ($29.00).
  • If you are interested in playing college-level sports, you must complete the NCAA Clearinghouse forms . Stop in guidance sometime & talk with Mr. Johnson, SOPH counselor.
  • The nine weeks grading period ends 10/7/05 . The midway progress reports will be headed home on 9/14/05. All juniors should have their PIN # and checking your grades online . If you don't have it, have your parent(s) get it on 8/25, AHS Open House night. Be mindful of missed work/ tests. Any zeros really effect your report card (KEES money goal).
  • Your individual CATS results (taken as a sophomore) will be in our building after 9/15. I will be getting those to you through CAP group in Oct.

Scholarship Information:

It's not too early to go to www.fastweb.com & complete your profile. Scholarship opportunities will be delivered to your email!

School is out Oct 10-Oct. 14. You're encouraged to visit friends &/or relatives on a college/tech school campus. See what it is like to be in that setting! It's not too early.

Continue to make good decisions your junior year & I will see your parent(s) on 9/13.a blue letter is in the mail!!

Let's catch a vision for your future----
