FROM: Kathleen Kreke, JR Counselor
RE: Informational Parent Meeting- 9/13/05
We welcome back your junior student for a great 2005-06 school year at Apollo High School . Our first few days of school have been really good. It's hard to believe summer is over and fall is just around the corner . Where does the time go.
As Junior counselor, I will continue to inform you about issues that are important to you as parent(s). I will also be your son/daughter's senior counselor next school year. We feel it's beneficial to the students to work with the same guidance counselor in grades 10-12. Please feel free to email me at kkreke@daviess.k12.ky.us anytime or you may call 852-7100 (Guidance Dept.) to set up an appointment to meet with me.
The junior year is a good year to begin/continue to discuss with your son/daughter what career goals/ post-secondary education plans he/she is thinking about. In our community, we are very fortunate to have colleges (4-yr), technical college (2-yr), & community college (2-yr). There are many choices/opportunities from which to pursue. The most important thing to do is talk with your junior student and continue to talk with him/her about what they want to do after graduation. This is a good time to have these conversations with your son/daughter. I encourage you to do so!
There will be an important parent meeting for you on Tuesday, September 13 at 6:30 p.m. in our AHS commons area (lunch area). Please make plans to attend by calling 852-7100 (ask for Kristi Tong, Guidance). We will formulate individual packets of your son/daughter's transcript and other pertinent information that we think will be helpful to you as a parent. This is the only time this school year that a junior parent meeting will be held with details given to you of importance!
TOPICS at 9/3meeting: PSAT (only qualifying test for NMSC) in October; ACT vs SAT college entrance test; counselor/parent roles; post-secondary opportunities;
checking grades online (get your PIN #); KEES guidelines; and other issues.
We welcome fresh starts, new beginnings, and the change of season/weather. I look forward to seeing you on September 13 (please call by Friday, 9/9 to have packet ready for you)!!
