SENIOR LETTER #2 August 23, 2005

***There is a FREE ACT/SAT PREP WEBSIT. IT IS AN AMAZING RESOURCE. VISIT WWW.NUMBER2.COM AND SEE FOR YOURSELF.

In order to review your KEES money that you have earned.here are the directions.

  1. Go to www.kheaa.com
  2. (In the middle of screen-look for the word ZIP)- Underneath the word look for "register now" and click on it.
  3. Fill in the information and REMEMBER (write it down) your password and ID for future reference.
  4. Click on submit button and it will read, "thank you for registering" and you click on the login button.
  5. Login again- using your ID and password
  6. Find ZIP ACCESS - VIEW ACCOUNT INFORMATION and click on it.

***If you have already registered and filled out information sheet you will:

  1. Login again
  2. Click on Zip Access

DATES TO REMEMBER

  • August 25 - Apollo High School Open House -
  • September 13 th at 6:30 p.m. - Senior Parent Information Meeting with Jan Young. Parents need to call guidance and let us know they will attend in order to get a packet.
  • September 13 th - Seniors will be called by way of PA to attend a mini-college day hosted by KWC. Several colleges/universities, military representatives will attend. You will receive the specific directions later from Jan Young.

ACT information-

There will be an English Review for the ACT/SAT on September 27 th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. You must sign up for this workshop starting August 29. Sign up in the Guidance Office and the cost is $1.

2nd English Review for the ACT/SAT is Tuesday, October 4 th from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. You must sign up for this workshop starting August 29. Sign up in the Guidance Office and the cost is $1.

College Open House Dates---

  • Western KY University - Tuesday, September 27 th at 6:30 p.m. at the River Park Center .
  • Murray State University - October 8 th - Noon to 5 p.m. and again on December 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

****There is a pink senior suggestion box in the guidance office window. You are to submit quotes (which will serve as your class motto). You can submit as many as you like and the senior class will vote on the final one. This quote will be used on your graduation program and graduation announcement. Please think of a great quote and submit it by September 30 th . No quotes accepted after that date.

Scholarships---

#2 - Today Woman's Scholarship - For male and female. For students that have been involved in activities (in and out of school), unusual circumstances in family, etc. Deadline is September 16 th . (This scholarship was announced on PA August 18th).

#3 -SAE Engineering Scholarship - Must have a strong grade point average and SAT or ACT scores to apply. See Ms. Jan Young specifically for this one. Deadline is Dec. 1.

#4 - Murray State University Scholarships- Apply online at www.murraystate.edu/scholarships Deadline is February 1, 2006

  • Check with your parent's place of employment to see if they have scholarship opportunities.
  • Check with your church to see if they have financial assistance to attend college.
  • Check with your own place of employment to see if they have scholarships.

This will be during 2 nd period and you will be called out of class. You are to report to 2 nd period and wait to be dismissed. Questions to ask the college representatives-

  1. Which test do you all require- the ACT or SAT?
  2. Do you require the optional writing portion of the ACT?
  3. When can I make an official college visit?
  4. What are the entrance requirements for this college on the ACT or SAT.
  5. Scholarships- You have academic scholarships-what scores do you need to apply?
  6. Are there leadership scholarships, legacy scholarships, or any other ones I should apply for?
  7. Do freshmen have to live on campus? If so when should I send in this application?
  8. I know I must apply to the college before I get the housing form and scholarship form-should I apply now?

There are several other questions you can ask, but these are just a few. Please ask while you are there.

*****Students attending the technical college IN THE MORNING will NOT BE ALLOWED TO MISS TECHNICAL CLASSES.

THE QUESTION FOR THE DAY IS ----YOU WANT TO GO TO COLLEGE, THEN WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO PREPARE FOR IT.
