Hello seniors--- JANUARY 6, 2006
The year 2006 is here and it is time you realize that you have approximately 4 months left of school. SOOOOOO----IT IS TIME TO GET BUSY DISCUSSING YOUR FUTURE PLANS AFTER GRADUATION WHATEVER THAT MIGHT BE. IT WOULD ALSO BE NICE TO DISCUSS THIS WITH YOUR PARENT(S) TOO.
GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENTS- A REPRESENTATIVE FROM BALFOUR WILL BE HERE ON MONDAY, JANUARY 23 TO PRESENT SENIOR ANNOUNCEMENTS. SENIORS WILL BE CALLED TO THE AUDITORIUM AT APPROXIMATELY 11:10 TO RECEIVE THE ANNOUNCEMENT INFORMATION. THEN THE SENIORS THAT WERE IN THE MORNING TECHNICAL CLASS WILL ATTEND A SESSION AT 11:45. MARK THIS IN YOUR AGENDA.
The representative will be back at Apollo to pick up orders on January 31st and February 1st during lunch. You must have your order completed and money (check) ready to turn in to the representative.
ACT DATES---TEST DATE IS FEBRUARY 11TH -REGISTER BY JANUARY 6TH.
ACT TEST IS APRIL 8—REGISTER BY MARCH 3RD.
SAT DATES – Test date is April 1 – register by February 24th
SAT DATES – Test date is May 6 – register by April 3rd
No KEES money will be given to you if you take your ACT/SAT’s in June. Apollo must send all scores in by May. The higher you score on either test, the more KEES monies you get.
Check with the information sheet I gave you earlier in the year to see how much money you could earn every year while you are in college. It is also listed in the “Getting In” Book I gave you. You were to share this with your parents as well.
The Financial Aid Meeting for Apollo parents is Thursday, January 19th at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. It will last approximately 1 ½ hours. It is free –just show up and be ready to listen to a Financial Aid Advisor. Remind your parents of the meeting as well. I am sending them a letter regarding the Financial Aid Meeting too.
In case school is cancelled on that day due to inclement weather, there will be a make up financial aid meeting Tuesday, February 7th at 6:30 p.m. It will be in the auditorium. This meeting will take place only if the first meeting is cancelled. Otherwise the Financial Aid meeting is January 19th at 6:30 p.m.
COLLEGE GOAL SUNDAY - NOW IN ITS SIXTH YEAR IN KENTUCKY, COLLEGE GOAL SUNDAY PROVIDES FREE HELP TO KY STUDENTS COMPLETING THE FREE FINANCIAL AID FORM (FAFSA). IT WILL TAKE PLACE AT 2 P.M. SUNDAY, JANUARY 29TH AT KENTUCKY WESLEYAN COLLEGE. IT WILL BE HELD IN RODGERS HALL. CALL THE FINANCIAL AID OFFICE AT KWC FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.

#31 ---HAPPY CHANDLER FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP—YOU MUST ATTEND A KENTUCKY COLLEGE; HAVE A 3.0 GPA AS A SENIOR OR AN ACT SCORE OF 25 OR BETTER. YOU MUST SUBMIT A 500-WORD ESSAY ABOUT PROFESSIONAL PLANS AFTER COLLEGE, AND HAVE 2 LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION. SCHOLARSHIP IS $16,000 OVER 4 YEARS OF COLLEGE. HEY FOLKS, IT DOESN’T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS WHEN TRYING TO GET MONEY----SO APPLY. YOU MUST MAIL IT IN BY THE END OF FEBRUARY.

#33 FIFTH THIRD BANK AND WFIE TV OFFERS THE LEADERSHIP SCHOLARS PROGRAM. IT IS VALUED AT $1000 AND YOU MUST HAVE A 2.5 GPA TO APPLY. THEY ARE LOOKING FOR WELL-ROUNDED STUDENTS AND THE STUDENT IS TO BE INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL, HAVE ACADEMIC ABILITY, HAVE LIFE GOALS AND INTERESTS. ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE TURNED IN TO JAN YOUN G BY FEBRUARY 20, 2006. I HAVE TO PROCESS EACH ONE AND THEN SEND THEM OFF. NONE WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER FEBRUARY 20TH.
#34 NATHAN Leach Reach for the Stars scholarship—A $4,000 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior that is a member of Commonwealth Credit Union. Deadline is March 24, 2006.
#35 Pauline C. Young Scholarship. Based on financial need, community involvement, etc. Deadline to be sent in is February 15th. You can stop by the guidance office and look in the scholarship crate or go online to www.kyscholarships.org. You must mail out the scholarship!
Several schools have their own departmental scholarships. Did you check with the school and ask. University of Southern Indiana’s Art department has 2 major scholarships for incoming Art Students. One is called the Sol and Arlen Bronstein Scholarship and the other is the Portfolio Scholarship. Check the application deadlines if interested.
Are you a grandchild, child of a Veteran? There are several scholarships out there if you are eligible. The American Legion is a great resource to check with.
Several of you are being awarded scholarships. I need to have a copy of this in order to announce it, have it in the awards ceremony, and have it listed in the graduation section of the Messenger/Inquirer. Bring in the award letter and I will make a copy of it.
REMEMBER THERE ARE SEVERAL SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS OUT THERE.
ONLY 4 PEOPLE APPLIED FOR THE BURGER KING SCHOLARSHIP.
ONLY 3 PEOPLE WROTE THE ESSAY FOR THE VOICE OF DEMOCRACY SCHOLARSHIP.

The NCAA Clearinghouse Code is 9999 (to put on the ACT/SAT registration).
All scholarship applications can be found in the guidance office in the scholarship crate or you must go on line to complete the application.
In order to have a letter of recommendation written by a teacher, you need to have a resume of activities ready to give the teacher. I have a format that you can use as a guideline, just stop by my office.
PUT THE INFORMATION REGARDING THE ORDERING OF GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENTS ON A CALENDAR.
MAKE ANOTHER NOTE WHEN THE PAYMENT FOR THE ANNOUNCEMENTS ARE TO BE MADE. PLEASE TRY TO SEND A CHECK FOR THE AMOUNT IF POSSIBLE.
