The Catapult challenge for 2005 was a challenge between Mr. Yeiser's Pre-Engineering Class and Mr. Phelp's Advance 3-D Class. The students in each class were told to build either or catapult or a trebuchet and see which group could launch a softball farther. They weren't allowed to use any combustibles, explosives, weapons, or animals(dead or alive), and slingshots were defiantly out of the question. Each group could use what ever material would work to succeed their goal, but most just used either wood, metal, or PVC pipe. One of the more extreme and odd catapults was a made from PVC pipe and a weight bench used to bench-press. The only thing different from this year from the past competition was that each group had to have a release trigger from a distance so that no one's catapult could be dangerous if backfired. Mr. Phelp's class took the win this year with the average longest throws and one group with the longest throw of 140 feet.
