Pennyrile Meet #3
The Apollo academic team participated in Pennyrile Academic Association meet #3 Oct. 17 at Christian County.
The varsity quick recall team went 2-0, defeating Christian County 34-12 and Ohio County 32-5, improving their Pennyrile record to 6-0 and their overall record to 20-7. Elizabeth Rogers led the team in scoring, followed by Ian Wilkey, Thomas Cameron and Ryan Seabolt.
The junior varsity quick recall team went 2-0, defeating Christian County 14-6 and Ohio County 11-3, bringing their Pennyrile record to 4-2 and their overall record to 8-4. Josh Edmonson and Nathan Kitchens led the team in scoring, followed by Derrick Gauselman, Matt Atkins, Alex Krampe and Courtney Schisler.

ASMA Contest #1
Fifty-three Apollo math students participated in the American Scholastic Mathematics Association Contest #1 Oct 18. The contest involved solving 7 math problems. T.J. Daugherty, Travis McMaine, Ryan Seabolt and Ian Wilkey tied for the top score with scores of 5. They were followed by: 5th, Grace Oh; tied for 6th, Casey Cambron, Natalie Johnson, Branden Payton, Elizabeth Rogers and Chris Sampley; tied for 11th, Joseph Early, Wei Ji, Grant Todd and Ashley Warren.
Vanderbilt ABC #30
The Apollo varsity and junior varsity quick recall teams participated in the Vanderbilt University Academic Bowl Contest XXX in Nashville Oct. 28-29. The tournament featured 47 varsity teams from five states and 15 JV teams from 2 states.
Teams played four Swiss-paired seeding matches Friday, Oct. 28. On Saturday, Oct. 29, the teams were divided into five-team pools, with each team playing four preliminary matches. Preliminary match results were used to seed and narrow the field to 32 varsity teams and15 JV teams for single-elimination playoffs.
DuPont Manual, the No. 2 seed, won their first Vandy ABC by defeating No. 4 seed Walton A of Marietta, Ga. 200-190 in the championship match. Dunbar A, the No. 2 seed, defeated No. 1 seed Dorman of Spartanburg, S.C.195-175 to win the JV tournament.
In the varsity tournament, Apollo went 4-5, advanced to the Vandy ABC playoffs for the 28th consecutive time, outscored their opponents 2,490 to 1,825 and brought their season record to 24-12. They went 2-2 in seeding matches, 2-2 in the preliminaries, 0-1 in the playoffs and placed 17th as the No. 17 seed. Elizabeth Rogers led the team in scoring, followed by Ian Wilkey, Thomas Cameron and Ryan Seabolt.
In the JV tournament, Apollo went 6-4, outscored their opponents 1,835 to 1,250 and brought their season record to 14-8. They went 3-1 in seeding matches, 2-2 in the preliminaries, 1-1 in the playoffs and placed 5th as the No. 6 seed. Lauren Thomas led the team in scoring, followed by Nathan Kitchens, Courtney Schisler, Josh Edmonson, Derrick Gauselman, Garrett Scott, Jordan Merimee and Alli Sehon.
Friday night seeding match results were: Round 1 - Varsity defeated Lafayette , 450-50; JV defeated Central Hardin , 280-30. Round 2 - Varsity lost to James Island (S.C.), 340-230; JV lost to Dorman, 320-170. Round 3 - Varsity defeated Daviess County , 340-190; JV defeated Dunbar D, 210-80. Round 4 - Varsity lost to Dunbar B, 310-205; JV defeated Loveless Academic Magnet Program of Montgomery, Ala., 205-65.
Saturday preliminary match results were: Round 1 - Varsity defeated Piarist, 380-40; JV lost to Dunbar B, 200-185. Round 2 - Varsity defeated Fleming County , 320-140; JV defeated Scott County , 210-70. Round 3 - Varsity lost to Dorman B, 190-345; JV lost to Dorman, 245-160. Round 4 - Varsity lost to Indian Springs ( Ala. ), 250-245; JV defeated Piarist, 185-0.
Playoff match results were: Varsity: Round of 32 - No. 17 seed Apollo lost to No. 16 seed Chattahoochee ( Tenn. ), 160-130. JV: Round of 15 - No. 6 seed Apollo defeated No. 11 seed Lafayette , 130-40. Quarterfinals - Apollo lost to No. 3 seed Danville , 200-100.
ASMA Contest #2
Fifty-one Apollo math students participated in the American Scholastic Mathematics Association Contest #2 Nov. 10. The contest involved solving 7 math problems. Ian Wilkey was the top scorer with a perfect score of 7. He was followed by: tied for 2nd, T.J. Daugherty, Branden Payton and Ryan Seabolt; tied for 5th, Matt Atkins, Wei Ji and Travis McMaine; tied for 8th, Casey Cambron, Carrie Gentry, Katie Hagan, Charles Nix, Grace Oh and Amber Satterfield; tied for 14th, Katie Carpenter, Matthew Cecil, Rex Gillim, Rob Gleason, Amy Johnson, Jordan Merimee, Kevin Reel, Elizabeth Rogers, Ashley Warren and Courtney Wilhoyte.
Hart County Invitational
The Apollo quick recall team placed 5th in the 23rd Annual Hart County Invitational Academic Tournament at Hart County High School in Munfordville, Nov. 12. This is the tenth time Apollo has placed 5th or better in eighteen Hart County Tournament appearances. The tournament featured 16 teams representing each of Kentucky 's basketball regions. The teams were divided into four-team pools and each team played three preliminary matches. Preliminary match results were used to seed a single-elimination playoff.
Danville won the tournament for the first time, Russell placed second, DuPont Manual placed third and Dunbar placed fourth.
The quick recall Eagles, the 2002 hart County tournament champions, went 3-2 in the tournament, outscored their opponents 161 to 137, and brought their overall record to 27-14. Elizabeth Rogers led the team in scoring with 10 tossups per match, followed by Thomas Cameron, Ian Wilkey, Lauren Thomas and Ryan Seabolt.
Preliminary match results were: Round 1 - defeated Daviess County 32-18. Round 2 - defeated Letcher County Central B 37-6. Round 3 - lost to Danville 45-18.
Playoff match results were: Round of 16 - defeated Letcher County Central A 41-30. Quarterfinals - lost to Russell 38-33.
The hosts of the tournament treated the team to a free historic tour of Mammoth Cave on Friday, Nov. 11.

The varsity quick recall team went 2-0, defeating Hopkinsville 1-0 by forfeit and Union County 37-6, improving their Pennyrile record to 8-0 and their overall record to 29-14 Elizabeth Rogers led the team in scoring with 11 tossups, followed by Ian Wilkey, Thomas Cameron and Ryan Seabolt.
