ACT Results-Class of 2005
This report contains ACT Results for the graduating class of 2005. The scores reported by ACT represent the most recent ACT taken by students graduating spring of 2005. Daviess County Public Schools continues to see more students taking the ACT with 515 students in the class of 2005 taking the test. The graph below shows the number of students by graduating class who took the ACT at least once during their high school career.

Overall, Daviess County Public Schools students' average ACT scores are above the state average scores in all areas. The ACT is a curriculum-based achievement test measuring skills and knowledge in four areas-Eng lish , Math, Reading , and Science Reasoning. An optional writing test was introduced in February 2005. ACT is the predominant college entrance exam for schools in Ken tucky . Students may earn a score from 1 to 36 with 36 being the highest score. The graph below shows the average ACT scores for our district, state and the nation.

The class of 2005 has a composite score higher than the previous seven graduating classes. The chart below shows the increases in the composite score for the district.

Another way to examine the composite score is to review the percent of students in various score distributions. Thirty-six percent of Daviess County Public Schools students who took the ACT scored a 24 or higher. The circle graph below shows the distribution of composite scores for students who took the ACT (graduating class of 2005.)

Each of our high schoolsreceived specific data as well. The graphs below show average ACT scores for each of our high schools for the graduating classes of 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.


In addition to the ACT, students in the graduating class of 2005 took the PLAN test as sophomores. The PLAN test serves as a preliminary ACT test. The format of the PLAN matches the ACT. All sophomores take the PLAN test as part of the district's assessment plan. PLAN results are on a scale from 1 to 32. PLAN results for the class of 2005 are in the chart below.

The graph below shows a percentage comparison between the district results of the PLAN and ACT for the class of 2005.

Overall, the results on the ACT for the class of 2005 show improvement. In an initial review of the results, Cabinet noted concern with math. Math is the only district score not to break 21. There has been little growth in math since 2001. The graph below shows that math has only changed by 0.5 since 2001.

Further discussions on possible ways to increase the math score on the ACT need to take place with the Board of Education, Cabinet and High School Principals.
