"It is only Technology if it was developed after you were born."
This was a theme at the "Laptop Institute" conference this summer in Memphis . The thought that the digital world is like an ocean. We as teachers are mammals who have found a way to swim with some success, but our home base is on land (pencil/paper). Our students are fish in this digital world. They grew up here. They are at home and can function without coming up for air.
Can you imagine a mammal showing a fish how to swim? Well, we as teachers need to find ways to allow students to swim freely in this digital ocean and learn while swimming. Our task should be to implant a desire for learning, quality production and teach them how to teach themselves. Doesn't sound like much of a task, does it?
