Welcome to the Herman Melville WebQuest. We have been studying the Dark Romantics in class and have focused mostly on Poe and Hawthorne. Let’s not forget Herman Melville, though. He is the author of Moby Dick and many other pieces.
Through this WebQuest you will have a greater understanding of the author and some of his works. You will also work individually to prepare a presentation to the class. See the list below (and follow the links provided) to ensure you complete ALL of the requirements. 1. Study the biographical information of Melville. Create a brief presentation to highlight the important part of Melville’s life. This can be a PowerPoint, a posterboard, or whatever other creative means you can think of. (20 points) 2. Read TWO of his writings. One MUST be a short story and the other MUST be a poem. 3. Write a one to two paragraph summary of BOTH of those pieces. (15 points) 4. Create a new piece (it can be a poem, a song, a short story, a play, children’s story, etc.) based on ONE of his writings that you read. (50 points) 5. You will present both your biographical information and your new creation based on Melville’s writings to the class on January 30 (white day class) OR January 31 (blue day class). (15 points)
Note: Don’t wait until the last minute to begin this project!
