The stories of good and evil have existed since the beginning of man’s existence. The delicate balance between good and evil that the Anglo-Saxon poet presents in the characters of Beowulf and Grendel present an epic tale that has captivated audience for centuries.
The Quest(ion) - How do authors use good and evil in literature to provide examples for recognizing morality and depravity? How does this work in Beowulf? The Process and Resources—This is an individual research project. You will follow the sites I have linked for you to learn more about the topic of good and evil in literature to complete the research and to ultimately create a finished product to PRESENT to the class. If you print out files, underline the passages you feel are the most important. If you look at the files on the computer, copy selections you feel are important and paste it into a writing document (such as WORD). Remember to write down or copy/paste the URL of the file you take the passage from so you can quickly go back to it if you need to prove your point as well as to cite it in the finished product. Focus what you learn into one main opinion that answers the QUEST(ion) above.
What is due? For the final project you will prepare a brief lecture (4-6 minutes) in which you will answer the questions stated above. Your notes will be attached to the back of a 2X2 board (cut a poster board to fit) that will be used as a ceiling tile. This tile must contain a scene from Beowulf that displays the forces of good and evil. Be sure to also turn in the answers to the questions on the links page after exploring the sites.
