Saving in Works and opening in Word

If you are working in Microsoft Works and need to bring the file to school and open in Microsoft Word use this procedure to save your document.

The problem: The *.wps extension on the MS Works file is not recognized by MS Word.

The fix:

Save your document as an "rtf" file. (*.rtf extension)

How to do this:

When ready to save your work, go to file - save as:

      Three steps:

  • At the top of the "save as" dialogue box choose the location to save the file
  • At the bottom of the dialogue box choose a name for the file.
  • Also, at the bottom of the dialogue box choose the save as type (file type). If they choose "rtf" then MS Word will recognize it here at school.

NOTE: rtf might be listed as RICH TEXT FORMAT   in the save as type dialogue box.
